Hardanger
Modern Hardanger originated in Norway. Blocks of satin stitch - Kloster blocks - are worked around shapes before the threads are cut and withdrawn. Each block consists of an uneven number of stitches, and encloses an even number of threads. Only the threads which lie in the same direction are cut; the rest are decorated with overcasing and interweaving. The spaces are sometimes filled with additional loops.
